day 19

I guess I didn't blog yesterday.  whoops.  Anyways, I ate fine and didn't workout.  but kind of wish I could have snuck one in.  Well today,  I learned from past mistakes and made myself a breakfast! I definitely think the blogging has helped me become more aware.  I made scrambled eggs with roasted tomoates and some mozz cheese altho not too much.  It was like pizza scrambled eggs.  HOwever, sometimes when I eat scrambled eggs I get this wierd full but not full feeling.  Not sure why.  This may sound crazy, but I'm wondering if scrambled eggs have air whipped in and thats why it feels like funny.  Anywho, I also snuck in a workout.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivEQN33Gzb4 I did not have much time but I'm glad I did this short but sweet.  It felt good and I worked up a quick sweat.  I felt really good after it.  Not sure why a workout like this is good and doing the dance videos make me tired.  Any...

day 17 cheat day

Well I've been a good girl for a while.  I had been saying no to extra sugar and I had had days where I ddin't indulge in junk food. But I had been craving chocolate for a few days and my mid day shakes weren't cutting it I guess because I was still craving.  So, I decided that while in the plaza I would finally enjoy that frappuccino I had been denying myself.  It was allright, I enjoyed it.  I think it made the craving go away.  But honestly, I kind of missed my own coffee shake and it wasn't as good as I remembered it.  Anyways, no guilt since a cheat day is allowed.  But THEN when I got home Gil and I went to watch a show and he brought up a beer.  I enjoyed the beer but at the time I felt I didn't NEED it.  I could have skipped it.  I wouldn't have drank it if he hadn't brought it up.  So I felt a little guilty.  But cheat day. I'm allowed right? BUT THEN?? Gil brought home churros.  And I ate one.  cheat day rig...

day 16

allright. I'm still doing this.  I had an epiphany yesterday.  Yesterday, I had a slump. Old me would have powered thru the slump and just have been miserable.  But I had the kind of mood where my body was tired and my mind was whirring.  I've had a couple of things *pinging*.  I decided I needed to attend those pinging items.  I needed to let my mind do it's thing.  And you know what? Once I did, I felt better.  (Getting $450 in Amazon credit didn't hurt either).  Also, I have been tempted to buy frappuccino or ice cream in the plaza but instead I've made my own homemade coffee smoothies.  They are a great afternoon pick me up!   I think I'm getting better at making them. Finally, since I had my tiramisu (well not really but kinda right?) . Anyways, I went for a run while Gilbert went to soccer practice.  I think I will continue to do that! It felt really good.  I did not feel tired and my back did not hurt after...

day 15 I think?

oh boy i am falling off the blogging train.  I missed a day.  But i still have a million thoughts.  So Operation Better Sleep is going well.  I have managed to both make sure I get 8 hours and a half hour of no tech time before bed.  However, I am STILL tired.  I am prone to these seemingly random SLUMPS.  I was in SLUMPSVILLE this morning and I am just determined to get thru it.  (Notice I am blogging right now instead of working out.) Yesterday, I did a workout and it was not my jam.  Plus I was tired after it. I need to do a couple of things to improve my workouts and motivation.  First of all is mindset.  For whatever reason whenever I workout I focus on how i think my body used to be and how old and stiff my body feels.  I need to somehow get that out of my head.  Not sure... First I think I can avoid super cardio videos.  Those aren't ammking me feel good.  Plus, I need to start to measure progress. ...

day 13 i think?

ok we're rolling with day 13.  Well it was a busy weekend.  so I missed a day.  Ate pretty well (no sugar despite the festivities) and I was active in lots of walking.  But today I am TIRED. and i don't know why.  hopefully tomorrow i'll be back to myself.

day 11

In terms of eating.  I think I did well.  I had leftover scrambled eggs from the day before.  I notice that I crave less sugar.  I had a cookie with my coffee but honestly I could have done without.  I also notice less hunger during my classes.  I wonder if that's because I'm skipping the sugar in my coffee.   What I like about this journey is that it is a time of exploration.  It's not a given that you will get it right right away.  In terms of workouts, well I didn't.  I find it hard to do one if I don't have a chance early on.  I could have prolly done one around 4 or 5 but by that time I'm pretty tired.  (That's pretty late given how early I wake up).  But around 2 o'clock the SLUMP hit me.  It had been a while since I'd been hit by the slump.  I shouldn't have felt that way, I had followed all the rules.  I had 8 hours of sleep.  Little sugar.  Good breakfast.  I'm wondering if...

day 10

whoops forgot to post yesterday.  Anyways, real quick.  Yesterday morning, I fell into the habit that I always do.  I held off on breakfast and then got SUPER hangry.  BUT I redeemed myself.  I went to the store and bought some eggs and onion and made scrambled eggs instead of having the bagel I was gonna have.  One thing that seems to happen when I do not eat in time is that when I do eat, I don't feel satiated. I either am still hungry or I eat more and then I feel stuffed and bloated.  So just to make not taht its just not worth it!  I did do a workout yesterday.  I'd been dyng for some HIIT and it was great.  I feel like just a touch sore today.  It was awesome.  Gonna shoot for 2 HIIT workouts a week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhdXXqcoco0 This was a solid HIIT workout.  I could return to it when I'm feeling like a HIIT workout.  See how much I improve on it.  Gonna have to make a list to have in ...

day 9

not too much to report today.  I did not work out today. maybe I should stretch I haven't eaten too many vegetables.  its soo hard to cook on a when i teach.  that is all.

A savvy experiment

Image
I am about to embark on an experiment.  I will try to do this at least once a week.  I will pick a word or an expression and explore it's usage.  When I was teaching ESL students who had come America to either work or study, many of them struggled with vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.  It was just not sufficient or even helpful to look up a work in a dictionary.  Dictionaries often don't provide enough contextual information in order to know how to use the word.  Non-native speakers often lack know-how or savvy when it comes to English words.  (Plus I think some native speaker nerds but enjoy the info). So for the inaugural entry, I thought I'd explore the word "savvy"  whose usage seems fairly low and then suddenly increases exponentially in 1980's.  Let's see if we can find out why. First, let's establish it's meaning and part of speech.  It is an adjective, noun and even a verb (although I will admit to have never having ...

day 8

Technically posted day 9 but this will be a review of day 8.  Anyways. I didn't workout but I did do a lot of walking and spent a lot of time outside so, that was good.  Not sure how I'm going to fit in a workout today.  I still need to work on veggies and breakfast.  I ate a toast and a fried egg but I knew that was not going to be enough.  I knew I would be hungrier.  I wish I would have gotten an avocado or picked some tomatoes or SOMETHING.  Actually I had spinach in the fridge and I didn't use that.  So, must use the spinach today. I want to try a smoothie with spinach.  What happened was an hour later I'm down rummaging in the kitchen and I ate the cookie that Gilbert left me. Now, I didn't eat any other sugar that day, so it wasn't like I over did it with the sugar BUT I feel like it was unnecessary.  I don't want to eat a cookie because I'm hungry, I want to eat a cookie because that cookie looked good and it's a special treat. ...

Day 7

Wellz this has been one week.  I have been consistent in blogging (mostly) but not perfect in terms of my habits.  I mean not that i had terrible habits but nothing that I think I did that would make me say lose weight.  Don't think that's happened yet. However, I think I am building a good foundation.  Last night, Gil brought home a concha and offered to me and I ate it.  But you know what? I'm not sorry.  It was good, it was one and I don't have one every night.  However, I do think that I should think about what to have right before bed.  Have some things prepared.  On that youtube channel I've been binging, Autumn Bates, she said that its good to have something carby before bed to release melatonin and thats jazz. Anyways, makes sense.  She suggested sweet potato or butternut squash.  Anyways, since she said that I cannot stop thinking about having a roasted sweet potato before bed.  That sounds amazing. This morning Gi...

Day 6

Allright. Well I've had a couple of unhealthy days.  But this is about staying focused and finding solutions.  For example. What can I do when I just don't feel like cooking breakfast? I'm going to try to meal prep some egg cups now that I'm not running.    But on a bigger scale.  I watched a video series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN8L4CVJoRc&list=PLamXkvGEvGD5hbOQhyA7JBI44uoF5Lp2m And I think it's pretty clear that I have a hormone imbalance.  I'm pumping too much cortisol and not getting enough melotonin at night.  So I'm gonna really try to make a concerted effort to change for my energy levels, my skin, my anxiety and of course my weight.  So I did a brainstorm on some things I can (and am currently doing) do: Eggs for breakfast  incorporate a veggie stand up between each morning class Water water water I should prep my water the night before Only one cup of coffee switch to tea if you want something warm Mid-...

Day 4: the vicious cycle

So we had guests late last night so I went to bed late.  I'm still feeling it.  And then this morning, Gil and I had planned a little SESH I did't have time or wnat to eat a big meal.  So I ate two of Gilbert's biscuits.  Of course that meant later I was STARVING.  I was SOOO good all week.  But today I grabbed that fucking granola bar.  This was me today. View this post on Instagram This sums me up perfectly (C&C @ricardovazg) A post shared by Jessica Anteby Tebele (@beigecardigan) on Sep 13, 2019 at 8:19am PDT Anyways, so I made myself do a workout because i didn't want to miss two days in a row.  And I know tomorrow I'm not likely to work out nor, the next day.  It's the weekend.  I did some Zumba but I feel so stiff! I used to be a good dancer and dance cute and now I can't =(.  What happened? >sigh< Anyways, I heated up some rice and made a quesadilla....

day 3: bad choices

Wellz.  Last night I had 2 glasses of wine, which is not like a whole lot but I still felt dehydrated at 4:30am.  Not terrible but I had had such a great streak of waking up feeling good.  Then I compounded it by having two cups of coffee instead of grabbing water.  So I just felt sluggish and tired all day.  Next, I was going to do my AM workout and Gil was like do it in the afternoon, but of course, in the afternoon I got caught up doing a million other things and no workout happened.  I did check off a few things off my to do list so there's that.  I have been eating well, and have not had any added sugar without trying that hard.  Oh I wanted to rant about one more thing.  So, I bought avocado to eat with the California Bowl, and I had plated my bowl and the Gil comes in and gives it to Kino.  So when I went to serve myself, I forgot to put the avocado on.  Boo! Anyways, I will be eating the second avocado for bf tomorrow. ...

Day 2

Gil made migas for breakfast which was great, but I wish I had incorporated some vegetables in it.  This would be good with tomatoes or avocado.  I should buy avocados. I did this workout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSVxtHBA-RQ This was a good level.  This had my favorite moves. Squat jumps, Russian twists, and use of dumbbells.   I almost skipped the workout to do some work, but I decided that I had to make working out a priority.  Had a raspberry pie smoothie.  Was good it held me over.  I'm rocking the noon smoothies. Now to have some spagetti for dinner.  Not so much to report today.

90 day journey

I have been logging my meals and my workouts and even notes about my workouts but I find that I cannot include all. the. thoughts. in my journal it just is too clunky.  I do want to dedicate myself to 90 days, like Cassy Ho.  I have decided that one I want to improve my health habits because I've put on weight, I feel stiff and feel like I'm getting old and losing mobility and my skin is breaking out and I just don't feel as good physically.  Well, actually today, I feel pretty good.  But in general, I know I could feel better.  Secondly, I want to do a 90 day journey because I notice that I always start out the month strong and then life gets in the way by the end of the month and I want to blog and set a nice long timeline to focus and also pay attention to what gets in the way and strategize how I can get around it. Ok let's talk about today.  I did this workout because I felt like cardio and didn't want to do abs because they were a bit sore.  ...
